When should a windshield be replaced?

A windshield does more than let you see the road: it contributes to the strength of the cabin. When it is too damaged, repair is no longer enough and it must be replaced. This is the case if you notice:

• a crack longer than 10 cm, or a crack that keeps growing;
• a chip larger than 50 mm, or several chips close together;
• a chip older than a week, filled with dust and moisture;
• a broken windshield, one that is deeply scratched, or one that was badly repaired before.

If the damage is small, a chip or crack repair may avoid a replacement. If in doubt, send us a photo and we will tell you what is possible.

How we work at the workshop

1. Identifying the windshield. From the make, model and year, we identify the windshield that exactly matches your vehicle.
2. Quote and appointment. You receive a free quote, then we book a time slot at the workshop.
3. Removing the old windshield. Trims, seals and wipers are carefully removed, then the old windshield is taken out.
4. Preparing the frame. The frame is cleaned and prepared so the new windshield is bonded to a sound surface.
5. Fitting and bonding. The windshield is positioned and bonded, and the removed parts are put back.
6. Final check. We check the fitting, the sealing and the wipers before handing the car back.

How long it takes

It depends on the model and on the windshield equipment. The adhesive needs time to cure before you drive: we tell you how long before you leave.

• the make, model and year of the vehicle;
• the type of glass (tinted or not, shape, size);
• the built-in equipment (heating, rain sensor, antenna, mirror mount…);
• the availability of the part for your model.
